May 27, 2014Great features that dont work
"I am on my third machine having gone through the return process with Breville EACH TIME MY COFFE MAKER STOPPED WORKING. Not sure how I can compare this machine to an other as it repeatedly has stopped working. $200+ coffee pot that each time it breaks down I pull out a $12 Mr. Coffee machine and brew my coffee flawlessly day after day until the replacement Breville arrives, only to go through the same routine. I will now go buy a $40 machine and replace it when they wears out (5 times for this price ) as I have never had issues with basic coffee makers with timers as I have with this product. This is by far the worst consumer purchase I have ever made, and I once owned an old FIAT."
May 9, 2014Huge Disappointment!
"I revived this coffee pot as a Christmas gift in 2013 (purchased from Bed Bath and Beyond). From the start the grinding of beans was off. With the strength setting as low as you can set it, the machine would grind so many beans the basket could not hold all of the ground coffee -- 1 lb of coffee brewed only 3 pots. Customer service told me it was "due to the gold filter"...what?
By January the pot had stopped brewing all of the water in the tank - I add 12 cups to the tank, the machine would brew 4 cups. I contacted Breville customer support to go through the proper return channels, I should have just took it back to the store because it cost me $45 in packing materials to send it back (I did not have to pay for the actual postage just the box and packing material that met the FedEx standards).
The return process took two weeks -- no coffee at home. The first replacement machine was broken when I took it out of the package (the door would not open). I went through the return process again (this time using the box and packaging it was delivered in (since I did not have time to dispose of it). Two more weeks with no coffee while I went through the return process. I got my third machine and it worked fine until May 7, 2014 when it stopped brewing all of the water in the tank (again 12 cups in 4 cups out).
I cleaned the pot every day and took care of it as directed but that just did not matter. For the price I expect the machine to work. This is a HUGE disappointment!
Breville did not even want to attempt a 4th return so they are refunding my money -- I do have to send them the broken machine though which after all of this seems like a huge hassle for me (I did keep the packing material in storage though).
In the end I am out $45 and had to deal with unwanted hassle and frustration.
This is so disappointing; I loved the look of this machine. I am huge coffee drinker and was thrilled with the promised features. I wish the quality of the machine was better.
Save yourself the headache and don't buy!"
April 22, 2014So Over this machine!
"I received this as a Christmas gift in Dec 2012. I absolutely loved it, lived for it, couldn't live without it. Then we got to the 6 month mark and everything went down hill. June 2013 was my first replacement due to the machine not recognizing how much water was in the tank. Which means, I poured in 8 cups and it steadily blinked at the less than 2 cup mark and would not brew my coffee. No biggie, maybe it's a faulty machine. Customer service was very helpful and got me a replacement fairly quickly.
Fast forward 10 months to April 2014. This morning I've just about had it. Filled it up to 10 cups because of course, it didn't recognize the 6 cups I really wanted. Hit start and after 5 attempts I was able to get 4 cups out of the machine. That's right, 5 ATTEMPTS! So imagine rushing to work and having to press start 5 different times to get 4 measly cups of coffee out of your over priced machine that keeps failing???
Calling customer service as soon as I get home and they will be replacing my machine yearly at the price that it cost!! Its a shame that if worked so perfectly in the beginning and now it's basically a headache. I gave away my Keurig for this???"
February 25, 2014Disappointed
"We too really wanted to like this machine as we were excited about the numerous features, quality and reputation of Breville. Sadly, I have never been more disappointed in a coffee maker. Each time I use it I have grounds in my coffee. I have tried doubling the filer, lowering the grind setting, lowering the strength (to the point of where it is not even a desirable strength flavor) and nothing has worked to keep grounds out of our coffee on a daily basis. The nail in the cofin of this machine was today when I contacted customer service and was told that grounds in coffee are completely normal and I should expect that there will be grounds in the coffee. I was informed that I am making too much coffee at once. Apparently, you are not supposed to make 12 cups of coffee at once in a machine designed for 12 cups. So diappointed in not only the machine but now customer service. "
January 23, 2014What a huge disappointment
"We really wanted to like this machine. We've owned many coffee machines over time and were eager to own one with a grinder. We've just threw in the towel on our second version of this machine. Both machines worked fine for the fist month. After that, they were totally unreliable and offered nothing but problems and bad coffee brewing The biggest problem we've had (of many) is that the water gauge ceases to work. After numerous fruitless attempts with customer service and reading other people's experiences, we've had to reluctantly abandon this machines. They look good and have nice displays, but if you want a cup of coffee from them, there's a very good chance they can't deliver. "

"I purchased this coffee maker after owning several of the competitive grind and brew machines. Obviously, those writing negative reviews about this coffee maker never owned the competitor. This machine is absolutely fabulous! I have owned it now for over 6 months without any problems.
The coffee comes out fantastic each and every time whether you are grinding the beans, using ground coffee, making a whole pot or just a to-go mug amount. The ability to adjust the strength is great when the beans you bought just aren't up to the taste buds of those who like their coffee with flavor.
My pot goes off every morning at 5:30 flawlessly without any intervention from me. My only mistake is occasionally forgetting to refill the bean hopper! For those negative reviewers, go buy a similar Cuisinart machine and see how poorly it compares, and the hoops you need to go through to clean the thing and the almost daily battles with the coffee chute! You need to unclog the Cuisinart after every use!!!
The only thing that kept me from buying this machine sooner was the price. I will have to say it was worth every penny. My family teases me about the money I spent on this coffee maker, but I do not regret the purchase at all."

"Although I only have this machine a few days so far so go...I had the cusinart with the grinder and brought back 4 of them in 2 years, its the same old deal, after a while the water pump does not pump all the water into the machine, so i have to hit it 2 or 3 times...I am having one problem setting up the timer, tried it once and it didnt work...guess i will read the book... There are very few machines with a built in grinder....I will see how this works...."

"This coffee maker does an amazing job of making a really good cup of coffee. While it works. You can customize the settings to make it as strong or as lite as you would like with either a full carafe or a single cup. That part is great! It also looks amazing on your counter.
Although, We are on our second one of these and we are having the same problem as before. After a few months the coffee maker has trouble getting all of the water out of the tank and takes up to an HOUR to fully brew the coffee. What happens then is the coffee that sits in the carafe gets overheated and burned. I was hoping that the first time was an isolated incident but after reading the other reviews and having my second one do the same thing, its time for Breville to go back to the drawing board. We had a Kitchen Aid that worked perfectly for several years with coffee being made every morning. "
August 17, 2013Great looking coffee maker, however...
"I do love this coffee maker for it's looks, I've always thought Breville made great products. But after using this coffee maker for less than a year I'm changing my mind. As of yesterday this coffee maker of not working at all. I never dropped it nor hit it. I used it with care, just plain normal use. It stopped working, I will post an update when I contact and receive an answer from Breville. Hopefully I get a better answer than Bose corporation. Stay tuned..."

"I love the idea of this coffee maker and it does make a great cup of coffee when it works.
I am currently on my third coffee maker due to the machine not recognizing the water that has been added. The previous two machines worked for a few months before they stopped registering the water. I always followed the instructions and put cool, filtered water in the machine.
Breville support has been helpful, but I shouldn't have to go through this much effort just to make a cup of coffee every day. If the issue remains with this third machine, I might just go back to my $15 coffee maker that I've had for years."
