the Smart Grinder™

with Dosing IQ

Our Smartest Grinder. It adjusts the dose when you change the grind.

The perfect coffee needs a precise amount of freshly ground beans. But adjustments in grind size requires different grind times to achieve a consistent dose.

Breville's conical burr Smart Grinder uses Dosing IQ technology to automatically adjust the dose whenever you change the grind. Choose between 'Cups' for French Press or Filter, and 'Shots' for Espresso, to get the right dose for your needs, whatever the grind setting. You can even tweak for taste.

The Smart Grinder has an LCD display, 25 grind settings, 1-pound removable hopper, and comes with two grinding cradles for dosing directly into espresso portafilters, plus an air-tight storage container.

You choose the grind, it'll choose the dose.

I so want to love this

"I ordered this Smart Grinder after reading many reviews and was so looking forward to better coffee and simpler grinding ( was using the inexpensive blade grinder). I have tried to use this three times and each time I it has locked up and I had to clear the hopper at least two times while trying to grind for an 8 cup brewer. I have the setting to the left under the first R in "Percolator". I had it further to the right for another try.

I read that oily beans might cause a problem. Is it hard to find coffee beans this grinder can tolerate? I tried a different brand of coffee each time.

Hoping I can find a coffee bean that will work in this grinder. Any suggestions? "

" We bought a Breville Barista Express espresso machine after much research of many brands....we are very happy with it....but we forgot that I drink decaf & my guy drinks regular....it is nearly impossible to share a grinder without my getting 'regular' in my decaf & I am someone who cannot tolerate 'hi-octane' coffee - I am a bundle of nerves floating 2 feet off the ground - it may sound like fun, but it is NOT.....soooooo we needed a separate bean grinder.....I researched grinders and read every review of every grinder and loved the idea of having the automatic/adjustable 'doser' just like the espresso machine does......I am soooo pleased with this grinder......the fine grind is exquisite....honestly......it looks great sitting right next to our barista Express & goes into 'sleep' mode when you arent using it & comes 'awake' at the touch of a button....it is quiet and the design keeps the mess of the grounds to a minimum ( hint: I actually use a basting brush to sweep what little grinds there are - it works better than a cloth - I put the 'extra' grinds in a small dish & use every yummy morsel the next time) you can adjust more or less grinds even in the automatic mode ....it is fun to experiment with the 'fine-ness' of the grinds to get the exact result you want.....this grinder is very user friendly and I don't think I even needed to read the directions....but I did anyway...yes, there were some grinders for less $$ and many for more $$$......I think you get what you pay for when it comes to grinders - to a point......I can't really imagine a better grinder than this one and even if I had bought one for twice the $$ - it may be a hair better....but that would be it.....I love my Barista Express BES860XL and my Grinder BCG800XL....I am now a huge fan of Breville"

Five Stars

"We received our smart grinder this week. It works really great and is easy to use. Clean-up for the few errant coffee grinds that I might spill is a snap with the pull out tray.

We are highly satisfied with this grinder and recommend it for your coffee bar.

You can't beat this

"If you're used to a spice grinder and now you're trying a real burr grinder, you'll probably grind waaaay too much at first, but when you hit upon the perfect amount to grind, you're going to have the best cup of coffee in your life. Try mixing "8 O'Clock Columbian" beans with Starbucks French Roast beans, a 50/50 mix for an amazing brew. I have a 12 cup drip coffee maker, and I started out with the 12 cup setting on the grinder, and the finest grind for drip brew, and it was too much. I've since switched to an "espresso grind, strong, and the 3 shot setting" for the perfect amount for a full 12 cups, the coffee grinding to a talcum powder like consistency. It's never bitter, and reminds me of New Zealand coffee. Great stuff. "

Smart Grinder

"I never take the time to write reviews, but I always check them out before I purchase any item. The quality of Breville has changed that. This grinder is awesome, quiet, efficient, and pleasing to look at on the counter. We have a single serve coffee brewer but don't use the pre-made cups because of the expense. This grinder grinds the beans for a perfect cup of coffee from the maker, and a tip for anyone who is using the grinder as I do to grind for single serve machines, leave the collar for the expresso cups in the grinder, the my kcup filter will slide in and catch the back lip so you can grind directly into the small filter and not have to grind then scoop which gets messy. Since I discovered this my husband will even fill the cups, before he just waited for me to do it."

Perfect match with BES900XL!

"I am speechless. I just got this grinder, about an hour ago and I've already pulled a PERFECT shot with my Breville BES900XL (Breville BES900XL Semi Automatic Espresso Machine) - Breville's new Dual Boiler espresso machine (you can read my review on it on Amazon).

The aroma, the crema and the taste of the coffee are simply incredible, compared to the same beans that come pre-ground.

BCG800XL and BES900XL are a match made in heaven!!! "

WOW what a difference!

"I thought that I had a good Burr grinder until I bought my Smart Grinder... WOW what a difference! Espresso is my drink of choice and this grinder has made a huge difference. Keep up the fabulous job Breville... Your $200 grinder can beat anybody's $400, $600 or $800 grinder hands down."

Crazy GOOD

"I was using a blade grinder on my beans until I stumble upon Burr grinders. I looked around for a good machine that will fit in my kitchen and a year later I found this machine. I have been purchasing metal filters for my Breville Barista machine because the blade grinder keeps clogging up the filter. Now I am happy to say that my Espresso/Cappuccino in the morning takes minutes to make and without mess. Now my next purchase is the Milk Cafe."

"By far, the best grinder I have ever owned- and better still, not the most expensive one I have ever owned! Well done, Breville. "

Coffee enthusiast

"3 yrs ago I purchased my first Breville espresso/cappuccino maker and although I love my coffee I was left frustrated with my blade grinder. After 3 replacement of the stainless steel filter I started looking for another machine not realizing it is the blade grinder that needed replacement.
I came across a coffee enthusiast site and the majority of the reader recommends burr grinder over blade. With this information I was in a hunt for a burr grinder and came across this product. I was hesitant to make a purchase due to the price but I did it. I must say that I am very happy with this purchase and every morning, for a month now, I often wonder why I haven't done this. The grind is so consistent that I no longer waste coffee and time due to the clogged filter. I kept my Breville espresso/cappuccino maker and now enjoy my coffee faster than any coffee house can make it. The custom cup makes for a no mess grind and the attachment for the filter has very little to no mess which is surprising to me. I have cleaned the grinder once already because I switched coffee bean and I must say it was so easy. And yes I purchased my first Kona coffee bean because of this machine and all I can say is WOW. The bean is expensive and it requires machines that can bring out the best and Breville fit the bill, well at least for me. Even with the original bean that I used to use coffee is a little sweeter without the burnt taste that I normally experience with blade grinder. I will continue to use this machine and maybe even purchase the Milk Cafe in the future. For now I look forward to my first cup every morning and maybe even 2 before leaving for work. Thanks Breville"
