Cautiously hopeful this one will keep working... -
"Save your box, your receipt and be sure to register your oven with Breville. And buy it from a vendor with a good return policy so that you don't have to mail the oven to Breville.
I chose this oven because of the Consumer Reports reviews. However, my first BOV650XL oven worked for less than 12 hours--just long enough to perform the one-time-start-up function before the coils refused to heat. Bells/timers worked, but no heat on any setting. No troubleshooting instructions in the manual. Unplugging and hoping it would "reset" didn't help. I returned it to Bed Bath & Beyond and got a new one. This one is still working, but I've only used it four times. I've read numerous complaints on various web sites about this same problem, or very similar....both for brand new units, and units that are several months old. So I'm not throwing out the box or the receipt.

Breville Compact Oven -
"I love this oven with its even heat and depth for cooking and use it on a regular basis. I know I will use it for roasts and steaks as well a for toasting.
My one recommendation is that the tray be redesigned to catch in the oven so that it doesn't pull out all of the way and fall out. i've had two instances of burning myself trying to catch it falling from the oven while turning over a steak. In order to reach the steak, the tray has to be pulled out far enough, and both times it fell from the oven, steak and all, onto the open door and I had to catch it." -

Shopping for a toaster oven -
"I looked everywhere for a toaster oven with digital oven controls. When I discovered the Breville I was amazed at what it could do. There is no real competition for this oven/toaster. I ended up spending a few bucks more than I thought, but it was well worth it in value. I am totally satisfied with its performance.

fabulous piece of kitchen equipment -
"Just purchased the BOV650XL. This is a beautifully engineered piece of equipment that performs exactly as promised. Although it is expensive, as far as I'm concerned, it's definitely worth the money. The first attraction for me was the easy-to-pull-out crumb tray. I make all my own bread which tends to be "crummier" than store versions. Cleaning my older toaster ovens meant standing on my head wrestling with drop trays and watching all the toaster's guts fall into the sink just to get the crumbs out. The Breville is so easy to clean I can do it every day if I want to.
Although I bought this for its toasting capability (which is fabulous), I think it's going to retire my two big ovens. I've been firing them both up to bake dishes for 2 people and to heat plates (which in our 58 degree winter house is important!). Looks like the Breville will be able to do 95% of my baking and plate heating. In fact if I make my bread and pizzas a little smaller it will be doing all my baking. And my microwave is going to be miffed as well as no more reheating (and getting soggy pizza)in that!
So I could not be happier with this product. It is a fabulous piece of kitchen equipment that any serious cook will appreciate. Yes, it's a bit bigger than the average toast-oven but it's worth rearranging your kitchen as I did to accommodate it. Yes, it's more expensive but you really do get what you pay for.
I also want to compliment Breville's customer support which was very prompt with some pre-sale questions I had about cord length and a post-sale question about finding the serial number for product registration. The customer service person was great which influenced my decision to buy. All in all I am just tickled pink with this product!

Absolutely Wonderful!! -
"I am loving my Breville, I wish I had bought the larger size. It is truly the best thing since slice bread, I reheat, bake, roast, broil, and toast in it. Once you reheat food, like fries, sandwiches, fish, and chicken, you will never want to place anything else in the microwave. I have a Butcher block table that I bought and it is has the center stage all by itself. I did not have anywhere else to store another small appliance and the Butcher block table is just the right thing for it, and I have extra storage space under it as well.
My friend came over and said, oh, you have a toaster over, and I let her know this was not some old toaster over, it was much more than that, I actually got offended that she called my Breville a toaster oven.
It is worth the price, the extra space it takes up, and I love that I can cook what i want and when it is complete it automatically turns off. The Breville gives recommended times and settings to cook various foods.
Now if I can only get it to do my prepping : )" -

Smaller is better -
"I second the Web Diva, March 18, 2011, review. The BOV650XL looks marvelous. I even downloaded and read the manual and watched the video on your website. But, it is too big. I am searching for a replacement for my 13 year old Black & Decker, 14 3/4 X 10 X 7 1/2. It has worked great for toast and baking potatoes, etc. However, the upper element has failed. For a replacement, I have consulted Consumer Reports, looked online, and gone physically to 9 local stores, looking for one that will fit in our kitchen. Most of them are far too large. I also prefer a button to push for toast. Most models have dials which make clicking noises. We brought home one about the same size as BOV650XL, a Cuisinart ($80). Alas, the footprint and height are too large. And its color, black, made it the dominant object in our kitchen. We prefer white or silver. While I would prefer a lower cost, at this point, I'm even willing to pay $100 or $150 for your quality and reliability -- if the oven is small enough. So, for now, I guess I'll buy a small piece of junk, listen to the clicking noises, and wait until you produce a really compact toaster oven."

Still too big - and too expensive -
"It's a great toaster oven, IF you have the space for it -- I don't, but a friend does and loves it, and I've seen it work at her house -- but it's still too big and costs too much. Specifically, there's no way you can call this a compact toaster oven: a truly compact toaster oven by definition *can't* accommodate a 12-inch pizza because a compact oven is no more than 9 to 10 inches in depth. In fact, a 9-inch depth is all I can fit in my kitchen, and that's the depth of a classic toaster oven of years past (e.g., the old style Black & Deckers, not the new ones). Moreover, it's ridiculous that a good compact toaster oven should cost more than $100! If Breville really wants me for a customer, it will make a toaster oven with the quality and reliability of the BOV650XL but with a smaller footprint and a considerably lower price tag -- or I won't be buying one from them.

I've used this almost everyday since I bought it last spring. -
"I've gone through several "Toaster Ovens" during my lifetime. I threw them away because they took up more counter space than they were worth.
The Breville is a fantatic appliance that I use almost everyday. It heats quickly. Cooks perfectly. The temperature is always accurate and it's faster than the big oven. It makes life so easy when time in the kitchen is so very limited.

Great product! -
"I just love this new toaster oven! It cooks everything quick and although I don't use it for toast, it does toast great. My other toaster oven either burnt it or not enough. I would have gotten the bigger oven but it was too big for my counter. This one fits perfect."
