Polycarbonate
When I contacted Breville about this product I was considering buying, I found out that the plastic in the viewing window that comes in contact with the hot water is made from polycarbonate plastic, which is known to contain BPA. I hope a new model is designed that would contain a glass viewing window! I would buy it in a second, as this tea kettle looks amazing!!!
Also may want to consider a "warm water" option, for water not needed as hot.
Thanks! - Best kettle ever You'll never regret spending the extra money to get this top of the line kettle. It's a Rolls Royce. I particularly like the smooth operation of the powered lid, and the placement of the water level indicators both sides of the kettle, so you don't have to struggle to see the water level, as was the case with our previous Cuisinart. It beeps discreetly when finished, and the Hold function is really useful, so you have time to finish whatever you are doing, before you go over to the kettle for hot water. And that's not to mention the 5 presets enabling you to boil water to just the right temperature for your brew of choice.
- Love this product! I didn't think I'd love this kettle as much as I do! The cost turned me off at first however, now I can tell you it is well worth the price. I used to boil water for tea in a small pot but now I can set the kettle and walk away and not worry the water will boil over.
- Excellent for tea drinkers! This kettle is brilliant! I drink various types of loose tea (green, oolong, white, etc) and this kettle helps to ensure every type of tea is brewed to perfection!

Gyokuro, a Perfect Winter Tea
I spend a great deal of my time in the sub-tropical heat of Southeast Asia. When I come back to my frozen homeland (Midwestern USA) at this time of year, I often find myself complaining, "It’s so cold and depressing. When is winter going to end?" When I feel that down and blasé mood creeping up on me, I call upon the uplifting powers of Gyokuro.
