Work Well

"I've had this for over a year now to replace the Kuregs that seem to stop working after 1 year of service. now we buy any coffee we want and can brew for lager crowds. What a relief.

No real complaints, works and grinds like it is suppose to.

For us since the machine is so tall it doesn't fit under our cabinets. And what makes it even more weird, tall travel mugs wont fit in the unit forcing you to brew in the craft. Not a big deal.

Letting the coffee sit in the craft for 10 mins or so seems to make it a bit hotter than when you pour directly after brewing. Not a big deal the temp is good either way for me."

Good While It Lasted

"We took the very expensive plunge to buy this coffee maker expecting it to last longer than a year. Today, it stopped working completely. No water runs through the coffee and the warming plate is dead, which leads me to believe that whatever is supposed to heat the water has also stopped working.
I also agree with many things others have said here, including not being able to control the timing on the warming plate or turn it back on at will,
I have coffee makers from years ago that were far less expensive and still work fine. Apparently the fancy features on the Breville were not made to last. "

Rusty warming plate

"I bought mine December 13 2013. I just looked at the receipt. A few months ago the paint on the warming plate began to flake off and now it is rusty. When I make coffee it seems to be too hot because wafts of steam appear in the carafe. I think this is due to the paint missing on the warming plate. The descale feature seems wrong. After I clean the machine with vinegar sometimes the descale warning turns off. Sometimes it does not. We have a high end water softener in our house so I don't think our water is to blame.

Since I have the receipt and this is only 2 years old I will call Breville on Monday February 8, 2016 and see if they will do anything for me. Perhaps they will replace it. Perhaps they will repair it. Perhaps they will give me a warming plate and let me repair it. For $229 I sort of expect it to last longer.

In any event, I will post my experience with customer service after I talk to them."

Warming Plate Rusts

"This machine makes good coffee. But the warming plate rusts. The company replaced the first coffee maker free of charge. But the warming plate rusted on the replacement also. This time, the company wanted to charge me $99.00. I am not going to pay this because this should never have happened in the first place. So, I continue to use a coffee maker with a warming plate that gets rustier and rustier. Eventually I will look for another brand."

In case of power outage warming plate is no way to turn back on.

"I love my coffee maker. I've had it for over a year now. However, The biggest problem we have with it is that in case of power outage there is no way to turn warming plate back on if coffee just been made and power goes out. It happened to us many times where I just made coffee and it showed two hrs left before safety shut off. We lost power in the house and when we got our power back on - coffee maker resets to beginning mode as if it never brewed coffee. It shows that basket needs to be cleaned and water tank must be filled a minimum of two cups to brew additional coffee in order to get warming plate turned back on. It is very frustrating to clean coffee make just to make and additional 2 cups of coffee to get warming plate working. Otherwise I have to use microwave to reheat leftover coffee. There should be an option of turning just warming plate on in cases like this. Or machine should recognize power outages if it is in the middle of a cycle.
Couple of times we had power outage before brewing cycle was complete and when power came back on, it showed to empty basket and start over again. And how do you do that when there is still water left inside machine and coffee basket is still dripping with first coffee load? It becomes a waste. It should have option to continue to brew what's in it already. Please fix the problem. "

DO NOT buy this coffee maker

"I'm on my second machine and seriously considering just throwing it away. No matter how many times I de-scale this thing, I can't get it to read "7 cups" In fact, this morning after putting 8 cups of water in, it read 4 on the screen. I trickled in a bit more, and it jumped to 10 cups. So I turned the machine on, and despite a full hopper of beans and just recently cleaning out the Burr grinder, I literally have to shove beans down into the hole. But it stops before grinding enough beans for 10 cups...basically leaving me with a pot full of coffee water. I'm just so over this thing.

The coffee maker worked great when we first got it, but it's gone downhill ever since despite regular maintenance. If you want a coffee pot that looks good on your counter, this is for you. But if you want one that actually brews coffee, stay away! A machine costing $230 should work better than this!"

Wish I had read the reviews before I bought my Breville.

"I am now having to send my third coffee back due to its failure. It brews a great cup of coffee but it is definitely not worth the hassle of having to send the machine back every few weeks. The customer service so far has been nice and helpful, navigating me through the return process (although with as many times as I've done it now I consider myself an old pro. Honestly I would not recommend this coffee maker to anyone. I wish Breville could've gotten this one right."

Great features that dont work

"I am on my third machine having gone through the return process with Breville EACH TIME MY COFFE MAKER STOPPED WORKING. Not sure how I can compare this machine to an other as it repeatedly has stopped working. $200+ coffee pot that each time it breaks down I pull out a $12 Mr. Coffee machine and brew my coffee flawlessly day after day until the replacement Breville arrives, only to go through the same routine. I will now go buy a $40 machine and replace it when they wears out (5 times for this price ) as I have never had issues with basic coffee makers with timers as I have with this product. This is by far the worst consumer purchase I have ever made, and I once owned an old FIAT."

Huge Disappointment!

"I revived this coffee pot as a Christmas gift in 2013 (purchased from Bed Bath and Beyond). From the start the grinding of beans was off. With the strength setting as low as you can set it, the machine would grind so many beans the basket could not hold all of the ground coffee -- 1 lb of coffee brewed only 3 pots. Customer service told me it was "due to the gold filter"...what?

By January the pot had stopped brewing all of the water in the tank - I add 12 cups to the tank, the machine would brew 4 cups. I contacted Breville customer support to go through the proper return channels, I should have just took it back to the store because it cost me $45 in packing materials to send it back (I did not have to pay for the actual postage just the box and packing material that met the FedEx standards).

The return process took two weeks -- no coffee at home. The first replacement machine was broken when I took it out of the package (the door would not open). I went through the return process again (this time using the box and packaging it was delivered in (since I did not have time to dispose of it). Two more weeks with no coffee while I went through the return process. I got my third machine and it worked fine until May 7, 2014 when it stopped brewing all of the water in the tank (again 12 cups in 4 cups out).

I cleaned the pot every day and took care of it as directed but that just did not matter. For the price I expect the machine to work. This is a HUGE disappointment!

Breville did not even want to attempt a 4th return so they are refunding my money -- I do have to send them the broken machine though which after all of this seems like a huge hassle for me (I did keep the packing material in storage though).

In the end I am out $45 and had to deal with unwanted hassle and frustration.

This is so disappointing; I loved the look of this machine. I am huge coffee drinker and was thrilled with the promised features. I wish the quality of the machine was better.

Save yourself the headache and don't buy!"

So Over this machine!

"I received this as a Christmas gift in Dec 2012. I absolutely loved it, lived for it, couldn't live without it. Then we got to the 6 month mark and everything went down hill. June 2013 was my first replacement due to the machine not recognizing how much water was in the tank. Which means, I poured in 8 cups and it steadily blinked at the less than 2 cup mark and would not brew my coffee. No biggie, maybe it's a faulty machine. Customer service was very helpful and got me a replacement fairly quickly.

Fast forward 10 months to April 2014. This morning I've just about had it. Filled it up to 10 cups because of course, it didn't recognize the 6 cups I really wanted. Hit start and after 5 attempts I was able to get 4 cups out of the machine. That's right, 5 ATTEMPTS! So imagine rushing to work and having to press start 5 different times to get 4 measly cups of coffee out of your over priced machine that keeps failing???

Calling customer service as soon as I get home and they will be replacing my machine yearly at the price that it cost!! Its a shame that if worked so perfectly in the beginning and now it's basically a headache. I gave away my Keurig for this???"
