June 28, 2015Beautiful machine
"Really, if you like a well made, beautifully designed machine this is it. Better yet it makes really good ice cream! Not as fast as the advertising states, but my kitchen temperature was 78 - 80 degrees - summer in Florida... Sorbet took an hour and a half but it was perfect, professional grade - yummy! Ice cream - to the highest hardness setting - took a little over an hour. The product was better than any ice cream I have ever tasted - creamy, rich, devastatingly dangerous to arteries and figure! But why die unfulfilled?
The bucket design was my biggest hang-up when deciding to purchase this machine. The center spindle does get in the way a bit when removing the finished product but on the other hand it keeps the liquid from leaking through the center core. The paddle has to attach somehow with an under mount motor and this allows a good clean design. One thing I didn't expect though - the "doughnut" hole on the underside of the bucket actually makes it easier for a small hand to hold the container to empty it. I just wear a glove and stick my thumb through the hole and hold one half of the underside with one hand while I scoop out with the other. This is easier than what I went through holding the larger freezer style bowl of my Kitchenaid mixer.
I would like to say one thing - no reflection on Breville - but I purchased my machine at Williams-Sonoma in the mall in Tampa. This unit is packed in a large box and it weighs around 38 pounds. I asked if they had a loading dock that I could drive to for pick up and the clerk said no, instead they stood by while a 66 year old woman carried this thing through the mall and out to the parking lot! Mine was probably the highest dollar sale of the day and they couldn't even spare the stock room worker for ten minutes to help me to my car! Order it online folks - save your back!!!"
March 10, 2015Wow!
"I have used my Smart Scoop for two weeks now, and I am thrilled with its performance. I have enjoyed using it so much that I am looking for reasons to use it and making ice cream for my neighbors. It is easy and fun to use and really makes fantastic frozen desserts. The consistency guide is fabulous making diffent types of creamy delights with fantastic success. The sound IS NOT at all an issue like other ice cream machines I have purchased. A couple of friends have made fast trips to a kitchen store in the area and purchased this product. Now we are having ice cream creativity contests. WOW! A must have. "
June 18, 2014Healthy Ice Cream?
"As previous reviews said people need to make sure the containers are not filled to the max.
I love ice cream, but am not a frequent eater of it. It's a seldom indulgence and I am trying to make sure evil dessert is somewhat healthy and organic as possible when it comes in contact with my mouth. This Smart Scoop allows me to do so, thereby giving me the ability to avoid being in a comatose from a sugar rush from a regular ice cream.
I love it and sometimes I do some curls with the 40lbs ice cream maker to burn off some calories LOL."

"This arrived last week and so far I've made about 10 portions of ice cream that have turned out great. In order to make sure you don't overfill the container, I make sure the liquid doesn't exceed 3 1/2 cups . I select the "Hard" setting and the ice cream comes right to the brim of the can but does not overflow. Seems to be a good purchase. Chocolate, butter pecan, dreamsicle pineapple, strawberry, peach and of course, vanilla. All came out terrific! Bought a second freezer can and noticed it's made slightly different, there are no screws on the bottom of the can; looks like the plastic shaft was pressed into place on the new one"

"I went through two of these machines in two weeks, both were broken. It is very quiet but not worth the hassle of continuing to return to see if i can get one that works. Very disappointed.
June 23, 2013very good product
" I made a lot of ice cream with this machine never had a problem.don't over fill the container you will not have a problem with a overflow.i would put this machine someplace were you won't have to move it all the time.the size and weight for me is not that bad. it does weigh about 38lbs.i would buy it again."
April 16, 2013Could be better designed
"I've made very good ice cream but the container is not designed for ease of use. The well for the container is difficult to clean if some of the mixture should overflow. My machine always leaks into the well at the center spindle even though I am careful to place the container in the well very carefully and secure.
If you buy this ice cream maker, be prepared for a very large, heavy piece of equipment.

"Love this product. Have made 5 batches now and all have produced superb results. Super easy to use, ice cream has been ready faster than noted in manual. So far so good!"
