May 25, 2014Just Stopped Working
"It was the best Toaster Oven I ever owned and it worked fine for 15 months, (12 month warranty), then all the lights went out and it died...No fuses visible. It's sides do get hotter than Hades so be careful where you put it. For some reason the right side (facing it) doesn't heat up. That's a lot of money to put up ($250.00) and then to have to find someone to repair it. I live 90 miles away from an official repair shop. That's why I bought it, so I wouldn't have to lug it or ship it 90 miles. Toaster ovens are normally around a hundred bucks.

"I read tons of reviews before deciding to purchase this oven. I bought this to replace my T-Fal convection toaster oven. What a huge difference!
It's smaller (than the T-Fal) but fits the same amounts of food which gives me more room to prepare food. I have a large kitchen with lots of counter space but that doesn't mean I want to clutter it up with small appliances and gadgets.
It's easy to use and has a nice display. I had read reviews about a hard to read display so either they were wrong or Breville changed it. Not sure. But it's bright and easy to read. It's a light white-blue while on (not in stand-by mode) and it's orange when in use.
I have made a few things with this oven so far and it has been perfect. I love the pizza pan! This weekend I am going to make the pizza sauce and pizza dough recipes from the manual that came with the oven. I can't wait!
I did want to mention though, I have read a lot of reviews about the beeping noises on the unit being supremely loud. 1. They aren't loud. The 2 beeps when you initially plug it in, sure, they're a bit loud. But unless you are constantly unplugging and plugging this oven back in it won't matter. 2. That is seriously the only beep that's sort of loud. The others aren't. If you are taking a nap nearby while your oven is cooking, it *might* wake you up. But all in all I think it's a silly thing to complain about and not worth passing up this great oven for. "
May 1, 2014High Quality Full Size Oven Replacement
"I bought the Breville Smart Oven about 7 or 8 years ago after I my old toaster oven stopped working when it was only a year old. It is big enough to handle a 12 inch pizza and many other items that won't fit into the smaller cheap toaster ovens. I don't need to cook for a big family so the size is just right and it heats up in about 1/3 the time it takes for the full size oven. During the time I have owned it I stopped using the full size oven except for 16 inch pizzas. The unit is reliable and is made of high quality materials."
April 28, 2014Perfect oven replacement
"Owned a few "toaster ovens" in my life. I would not call my Breville a simple toaster oven. It is a wonderful asset to my kitchen and we almost never use our stove oven (except for a 20 lb. turkey).
It makes anything we ask perfectly. Pizza, toast, cakes, chicken, anything baked. 5 stars is well deserved. If there is one "disappointment" it would be a lack of an internal light. Round pan could use an upgrade.
But we are still very satisfied."
April 26, 2014First Look
"This is an out of the box review. The good is that the oven seems sturdy, well made, and mostly well designed. It has lots of room, the controls make sense, and I think it will be easy to use. The manual is clearly written and comprehensive.
That said, I found a number of immediate disappointments. In decreasing order: The worst is the loud beeping. This seems to be a trend with appliances, each vying to get your attention with louder and more persistent beeps. Why two loud beeps when you plug it in? The display lights up, so you know it's powered up. And so on with the other times it beeps. The ability to disable beeping altogether would be very nice (my washing machine allows this).
The recommendation that the pans not be put in the dishwasher is preposterous. This might have been reasonable in the 1950s, but everyone uses dishwashers these day.
The rolled edge of the baking pan is rather sharp. I'm pretty sure that running a finger along this edge would get it sliced open. It should be better finished. The broil rack is a bit better.
The manual says to slide out the crumb tray and discard crumbs after each use, which seems rather inconvenient and onerous.
The manual, with both English and French, is something of a behemoth at 3/4 pound and about 3/8 inch thick. Since most of us will need only one of the two languages, separate manuals for each would cut down a lot on what needs to be stored.
A $250 appliance should not get little bits of the foam packing on my kitchen floor.
Overall, while a lot of attention seems to have gone into the design of the oven itself, it looks like less thought has gone into ancillary aspects."
April 20, 2014Almost Perfect
"I have owned this oven for 18 months now. It pulls daily duty at both breakfast & dinner times. I have made everything from ribs to cheese cake in this oven including frozen foods & fresh pizzas, not to mention bread of all sorts & with a few tweaks they all come out fantastic!
Those tweaks usually involve turning down the cooking temp. by 25-40F. degrees or reducing cooking time to prevent over cooking. 1800 watts in such a small space does the job rapidly! Adjust accordingly. Performance wise it simply cannot be topped by any other counter-top oven. That being said...
I find the CONVECTION FAN to be more 'gimmick' than desirable feature, luckily it can be turned off. The small space & huge wattage (from 5 elements) render forced heat circulation unnecessary, in fact, with the fan on, the front of your cakes, pizzas etc get done/brown much faster than the back half. Frustrating until you realize it's doing you no good & always turn it off before you start.
The FROZEN FOODS button is a great idea that I find does ensure even heating as claimed. No more pizza roll blow outs!
I agree w/ those who say a LIGHT is in order!
Also, the ACCESSORY PIZZA & SQUARE PANS furnished with the unit are cheap, flimsy & will flake ,warp & then rust after a few uses no matter how careful you are. I knew of this problem before purchasing & tried my best at TLC-THEY ARE JUNK!
Future upgrades should also include the following...
The wire racks need texturing &/or deeper lips to prevent hot pans from sliding all the way off during removal.
A drip pan that shields the lower elements from drips/debris; furthermore, the current slide-out crumb tray reeds a better non-stick coating to prevent burnt on stains.
April 6, 2014Smart Oven
"I can't say enough good things about this oven with 1 critical exception; this oven needs to have an interior light so that one can check on the food from time to time. Breville has a great light on their bread maker with a small button to push to view the dough as it is rising and baking. Why can't they add such a button and light to this oven? I would pay $50 more to have this! As a result, I had to buy a small flashlight and I hang it off of the handle...looks a little corny but it does the job. I am surprised that with all the thought and science put in to these appliances that Breville sometimes seems to miss the obvious. If others would mention this light issue, maybe they will make a very needed improvement to future buyers of this oven. Aside from that, this oven couldn't be more perfect! It is the best at what it is supposed to do! "

"I have been looking for an extra mini oven. This is a very nice addition to my kitchen. When I just want to heat something for me, this oven does the trick. "
January 5, 2014Amazing
"I owned a toaster oven for 20+ years and was looking to replace it. After thorough years of research due to ($250) - my research, kept bringing me back to the Breville Smart Oven. I have owned the Smart Oven for almost a year now, and I LOVE IT. I have baked in it, toasted, made a pizza, etc. Everything comes out just right and evenly cooked. Couldn't be happier.
The design, features, and complete look are amazing. It looks so sleek on my counter."

"I bought this oven to replace the use of my stove top oven, because every time I use my stove top oven, it heats up the entire house. That is not good in the summer and is a complete waste of energy. Additionally, it doesn't make sense to use a large stove top oven when cooking small items, so I thought I would give the Breville a try. I have had the Breville for one year now and have a long track record with using this oven to cook many items on a daily basis. Since my purchase of the Breville, I have not used my stove top oven once. I have cooked items in the Breville from large roasts and large chickens, to pies and cakes, many homemade pizzas and fresh breads, all with outstanding results. This oven browns and cooks evenly and cooks items faster than a regular oven would. The only item that won't fit in the Breville is a large turkey, and I prefer to roast that on the barbeque anyway. I have cooked items that warn "do not cook in a toaster oven", and they have all consistantly come out with perfect results. The Breville is a real miniature oven in the true sense, and should not really be considered a toaster oven. There are three negatives I have experienced with this oven. The pizza pan that came with the oven has completely lost its teflon coating, and I had to replace it with a high quality pan from Williams Sonoma. When using the toast function for regular bread, it takes longer than when using a regular toaster. The other drawback is the oven comes with only one oven rack. When I am cooking complete meals with the Breville, I have discovered that a second rack is a necessity when cooking multiple items, and will easily fit two racks in the oven. I had to buy a second rack for this reason. I bought the Breville oven due to the number 1 rating that Consumer Reports gave it and I agree this oven is a superior product and a must have for any kitchen. I am very difficult to please when judging gadgets and I give this oven a very high thumbs up. I love this oven and highly recommend this product. "
