"We've had this oven for over two years now and use it daily. It's perfect for just about everything but quiche. I've tried twice and it just doesn't work. Perfect for everything else though.
Highly recommend purchasing the bamboo cutting board to put on top if the unit will sit under a cabinet.

"I love my Breville smart oven -- I had it for almost 3 years, and the buttons started not responding properly. I contacted the company to ask about repair, and they sent me a newer model, refurbished beautifully, for FREE! They even sent me a prepaid overnight FedEx label to return my old oven. The new oven came only 2 days after I sent the old oven back. Great service. The refurbished oven has a warranty too, and it looks great and works just fine! Thank you so much!"
August 19, 2013Worked Great...For a While
"This unit was purchased in Feb 2011. It worked flawlessly until Aug 2013 when it died. For no reason that I know, it just quit working. It is as if the unit is unplugged...no display and all the functions are inoperative. And yes, I verified there was power to the outlet. I researched that failure mode online and discovered it is a recurring problem. I called customer support who advised that the best they could do for me was 20% discount on a new one. I was a bit disappointed since it has a known failure mode that is clearly well documented. I know the one-warranty period has expired but I expected that a company which makes such a fine product would stand behind it. I expected better...
I gave it two stars (instead of one) because it was fantastic before it broke."

"I bought my Smart Oven from Bed Bath and Beyond several months ago. Prior to purchasing it, I researched numerous brands of ovens. The Breville Smart Oven appeared to have the features and size I was looking for. I was a little hesitant to buy it because it was much more then I was originally planning to spend but I decided to go for it. After using it for several months, it was worth every penny. It is large enough to bake casseroles, pies or pizzas. Food browns evenly. There are no hot or burned spots. It produces the prettiest piece of toast I've ever seen-evenly toasted. It is also easy to use. Cooking functions are preprogrammed but can easily customized. I love my Breville and unhesitatingly recommend it."

"We purchased the Smart Oven 800XL back in 2010 and have used it almost daily. The oven has been a champ all along. I only had one minor problem which I wish I'd contacted Breville with. The bright blue LCD screen became very dim and almost impossible to read. This happened maybe a little after a year from our purchase date, so I never really contacted Breville because I was surely past the warranty period. Anyhow, the oven operated flawlessly. We love our Breville, but after recent kitchen remodel, we had all new appliances and I really wanted a screen I could easily read in any lighting condition, so I purchased another Smart Oven. I donated my "old" one to my mother-in-law who was more than happy to have it. I have noticed some changes in the new Breville as compared to the old. The lighting on the LCD panel is now more white with a slight blue tint. On our older model, the LCD backlighting was a very definite blue color. On the new model, I've noticed it is now MUCH easier to read the selection choices with this brighter back light. Also, when then oven is in operation, the backlight color changes to orange. This definitely provides a good contrast that makes it easy to read, but it also helps delineate when the oven has been actually turned on. I like that feature! As far as operation, nothing really has changed with the controls. This is probably one of the most versatile appliances we own and I'm glad to have a new one. I forgot how stunning this appliance is when it's brand new! My goal with this one will be to keep the glass door from becoming discolored due to use! Let's put it this way, if I didn't love this oven, I'd have never replaced it with the same unit. It's fantastic!"

"After using a smaller, lower-powered, lower-tech oven for about a dozen years, we purchased "The Smart Oven" [BOV800XL/A] in February 2013, largely because we needed a good complement to the one built-in conventional oven in our kitchen. So far we have been very impressed with our new Smart Oven's performance (Though it is early days yet). Based on past experience, we placed a custom cut-down sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil on top of the slide-in-out crumb tray at the bottom of the oven with a view toward keeping the oven as clean as possible [Caution: Aluminum foil is a conductor of electricity!]. So far the only gripe is pretty trivial: We read the manuals for items like this very carefully with a view toward safe operation, the best performance, and a long life; so far, the only negative comment we have about the oven concerns the fifth bullet from the top of the left-hand column on manual page 6 (Important Safeguards) where it is stated: "The installation of a residual current device (safety switch) is recommended to provide additional safety protection when using electrical appliances. It is advisable that a safety switch with a rated residual operation current not exceeding 30mA be installed in the electrical circuit supplying the appliance." I learned from my call to our large local electrical hardware store (supplies licensed electricians in the San Francisco Bay Area) that no employee or manager in the store had ever heard of a device with the manual's description. When I think of electrical safety devices that need to be in the circuit for an 1800 watt appliance, I think of an electrical outlet (with a high enough amperage rating of course) protected by either a GFI or some sort of surge protector. When I called the Breville CS line, I learned that the manual "had been translated from Australian English" and that, in the US what was needed was indeed a GFI-protected circuit or a surge protector. I suggested that the on-line and print manuals be updated to include this explanation for US users. Otherwise, using our new Smart Oven had been a great pleasure so far!"

"I have had several inexpensive toaster convection ovens, and have not used them, because they were not efficient. Finally we decided to take the recommendation of Consumer Reports and bought the Breville Super Oven. It is now the most used cooking appliance in our kitchen. I am so pleased, we'll be purchasing two more for our married daughters this coming Christmas. It is a quality product that is truly an asset in the kitchen, especially for just two people. Thank you Breville!"

"I have only used my full sized oven a handful of times during the three years that I have owned my smart oven. This handy little workhorse has more than earned its place on my kitchen counter. This is saying a lot, because I live in an apartment and counter space is at a premium. I use the oven nearly every day and have never been disappointed by its performance. I am not a fan of microwaving foods; to me, it throws off the flavor and texture of various foods. With the smart oven, there is no need. It takes a bit of extra time, but the results are worth it. And, it doesn't heat up my apartment the way that a large oven does. If the thing was to croak tomorrow, I'd shed some tears and run out to get another."

"I have only had mt oven fow a few weeks and love it. I rated it a five, but would rate it a ten if it had an oven light. Now I look at the food cooking with a flashlight since my kitchen light is not that strong. The other thing that I would like is a chart that shows for different types of food if the convection should be on or off. I noticed in the recipes that for cheese cake convection should be off. It would be nice to know this type of information for a list of foods, pies, cakes etc. etc."
