A fix for a problem
Love this grinder, other than my local roaster, SLCR - Roasting.com, this is the best grind. Purchased March 2010. The grind slowly became coarser and finally stopped working making only a hollow popping noise and no longer grinding at all. I tried cleaning everything out with a kitchen nylon brush, but it still was not working. Contacted Breville here on this site and was preparing to ship it back.
Then, having seen how the bean basket bore down on the top of the cone to adjust the coarseness of the grind and seeing some grounds still in the bottom, I used an air hose with 70-90 psi compressed air and blew it out outdoors. Perfect! It now works as well as the day it was new. A compressed air can from an office supply house would probably work just as well. I also now lightly rest a hand on the lid of the bean basket while it is grinding so that hard beans do not push the basket upwards and allow grounds to get under the basket.
I hope that this helps another Breville owner. 5 star grinder -1 for the grounds pushing upwards out of adjustment. - Best grinder I have ever had It is durable, has a great design, and makes highly uniform grinds for each setting. It is much quieter than my last, Italian-American grinder, which needed frequent cleaning.
- awesome This pairs great with my Breville die-cast espresso machine. Amazing crema, perfect grind. Do not know what people are saying that this won't grind fine enough for espresso machines, I don't even have it on the finest setting(Turkish), so there is room to grind finer. I paid 89 dollars on Amazon, great deal!
- overall good with a couple of exceptions... The product performs adequately for home use. However, there are two issues which should be addressed during re-design. The plastic container/receptacle which collects the ground coffee is flimsy and not well-designed. The top which needs to be opened to empty the container easily breaks. Mine broke within six months. The second problem is static electricity. The unit tends to build up quite a bit of static during grinding which tends to make the process messy. I am looking to purchase another grinder and will ONLY consider other brands because of the problems mentioned.
- terrible This grinder does not grind evenly and the beans, once they are ground jump out of the ground collector. The machine make the beans very staticy, thus making this machine very messy.
- ginds well, not durable Worked well grinding coffee on a daily basis. Was a bit messy as static electricity builds up in the coffee ground drawer. After one year started making loud noises as though a gear inside broke, then stopped working. Not what I expected for $100.
- one star or less! I have had this grinder just long enough to go out of warrenty. One morning, I went to grind coffee and it would not grind at all. Period. I took everything that I could apart and nothing. Will not work at all. Sounds like it wants to start, but won't. Called the company. No help there. Sorry about your luck and loss of $100+ with tax. Never again will I buy from Breville since they will not stand behind their costly products! I have a Cuisinart now and it works just as well for half the price! I know they stand behind their products!

Messy... but grinds well
Messy sums it up.... Bought this one to replce an older version that had the same CHEAP plastic basket... I was disappointed to see the same identical basket on the new model.
When you pay top dollar for a grinder, I would expect some measure of durability. Unfortunately, I expect the same result with this one that I got from the first....
- Love it We have had two other burr grinders in the past, and this is by far the best. Quiet, clean, and efficient. We have noticed we use even less beans with this one. The sleek design is a plus as it matches the coffee maker also. Very happy with this purchase.
- Good grinder but not fine enough for espresso It is a very nice grinder. Quiet and a very even grind. I have tried two of them and had to return both because neither grind fine enough for espresso coffee, even at the finest setting. Judging from the previous posts, this appears to be a recent problem.
