Additional Features
The removable bean hopper holds ½ lb (230 grams) of coffee beans. Easy-to-read settings on the side of the hopper allow you to position the plates to achieve the perfect grind for your specific coffee taste.
The slow nature of the grind imparts minimal heat to the beans, preserving more natural bean flavor than blade grinders.
The easy-to-read settings allow for grind choices from ultra-fine for Turkish coffee to large and coarse for percolators. Using grinds consistent in shape is a key element in producing flavorful coffee beverages. This way the water can evenly and equally extract flavor out of the grind.

Burr Grinder -
"Sure wish I had come here and read the reviews before I wasted my money on the burr grinder. In the store, I was seduced by its appearance and capacity.
It worked for a while, but then the on-off switch pushed into the case and now it is a kitchen counter ornament. I retrieved my trusty old $9.99 Krups grinder from the basement. It is probably twelve years old and works great, My recommendation would be to buy Krups. Not fancy, but functional.
Within a day of posting my review of the burr grinder, I received an email from a Customer Support Specialist at Breville who had a few questions for me. Ultimately, she asked me to send the broken grinder back to them, at their expense, which I did, and they replaced it with a new one! I was surprised and pleased; the warranty had expired and I did not expect the company to replace it. The new one works great, and does not have an on/off switch, so I am predicting that it will have a long life in my kitchen. I’d like to thank Breville and Renee; as a result of this great customer service, I won’t hesitate to buy other Breville appliances!
Thanks again, Renee!

A great coffee grinder that is getting better -
"We love coffee in our household and fresh ground coffee is something we cherish. We owned one of the first versions of this grinder and were very pleased, right up until the on-off switch busted. After several months of strategically playing with the switch to get the unit to run, it finally gave up the ghost. I see from the reviews we were not the only owners who had problems with the switch
We bought a another new unit after we learned we were out of warranty. The new unit had the on-off switch removed from the design, so feedback on the switch failure must have been plentiful.
The new unit's grinding capability, accuracy, and speed is superior to the first unit. The only thing I've noticed is that the unit must continue to draw electricity when not in use. The exterior of the housing around the timer knob remains warm, even after not being used for 24 hours.
A great grinder, but this design could still be improved. I would buy another." -

Really dissatisfied! -
"I was able to grind 1 batch of beans for espresso. Now the unit will not grind at all. Seems to be something in the switch. I am awaiting contact from Customer Service! It was a Christmas gift (at my suggestion) and I was planning on serving espresso on New Years eve. Best laid plans of mice and men etc. etc.!!!!!!"

Excellent Grinder -
"I had my first Breville for just past the one year warranty. It stopped grinding the beans to fine and would only work on a coarse grind. I called the company and, as a courtesy, they extende the warranty and allowed me to exchange the grinder for a brand new one. That was excellent customer service!! The new grinder arrived after three weeks and is exceptional. It seems to have a more powerful motor than the one purchased first. It is faster and the grinds are much more even.
Great company, and great product. I would highly recommend it." -

Unit consumes electricity even when not in use. -
"This thing does do a good job of grinding coffee.
The one completely unacceptable design flaw is that the unit draws 3.5 watts of electricity constantly if left plugged in. I tested over the course of a day with an electricity load meter. This is like leaving a 75 watt equivalent CFL on for 4 hours a day. And the thing is just sitting there. It's not acceptable to have to unplug the unit after each use then plug it in again before the next use.
This is clearly an issue and one that needs to be addressed. In this day and age I'm not sure how a product can go to market with such an obvious flaw. Kind of makes one question the overall design and durability of the grinder. I sure hope it last a while because I will not be buying another one because of this issue.

Adequate but with flaws -
"First model failed when on/off switch broke, even though it was never actually used. Nor was it needed as the new model doesn't have one. To Breville's credit, the unit was replaced as a courtesy even though out of warranty since they could not offer a fix.
Current model does a decent job of grinding and containing the dust, but has flaws:
a) ground remain trapped in neck above the plastic recevier until just after it is pulled out, then they fall to the platform under the container and have to be manually swept out. Banging or tapping the machine before removing the reciever does not help.
b) One side of the unit is noticabley warm if left plugged in: why? Design plus or energy waster? I can't detect any advantage so I unplug the unit after use to stop the vampire electricity waste.
Myron,
Thank you for your review and feedback. I wil pass your comments/suggestion on.

Adequate but with flaws -
"First version died when on/off swithc broke. Breville replaced unit even though just out of warranty. The switch was in fact redundant and removed on new model. However, current version suffers from retention of grounds in neck above plastic chamber which drop onto its platform just after removing the ground coffee chamber. Even banging the grinder before removing the container is little help. Also, I don't know why the side of the mill gets and stays warm if left plugged in. Is this a design plus or a flaw? "

good Grinder -
"I've used a lot of grinders in my time and I most say this is one of the best ones i've ever used, this is a very solid piece of equipment I would recommend it over any of the other grinders on the market. I waited a few months before writing this review because I wanted to be fair and put this grinder threw some hard test, Im not a person who grinds coffee whats in a while, I roast my own coffee for friends and family and I grind coffee every other day and this grinder has performed flawlessly, I would love to try there smart grinder and see how it compares to this machine, but for now I'm very happy with this machine!!!!!"

Very Good Product, Great Customer Service -
"As you see with the reviews of this product to date, the ratings go from dreadful to terrific -- which porbably says as much about human nature as it does the actual product (just as all men are great in their dreams, so too are all people experts in blogs and chat rooms).
I bought this coffee grinder over a year ago from Williams Sonoma (when you care enough to spend the very most). Like many of the aforementioned "opinionistas", it worked incredibly well right up to the point where the power switch broke. Contacting Williams Sonoma yielded nothing but disdain and apathy (initially from them, I reciprocated). They couldn't have cared less.
Although I no longer had my proof of purchase, or original packaging, the good people of Breville recognized the problem professionally, expediciously, and made me feel like they actually care about the reception of their goods in the marketplace. Their fixing my problem was beyond swift and satisfactory.
The true marque of a brand (or anything else in life) isn't how they behave when things are going well, it's how they respond when things go wrong. In this regard, the coffee grinder gets four stars, Breville gets six (out of a possible five).
I have no hesitation recommending their products - or the company. As a converted brand loyalist, I intend to buy more Breville branded products as much or more for the people behind the goods than the goods themselves. They are to be commended and rewarded with my loyalty and commerce!!" -

Very good to excellent -
"I have a Breville Toaster, Burr Grinder and Espresso Machine and now I am ready to purchase the Toaster Oven.
The Burr Grinder works great, never a problem. Most problem is with very oily coffee, it just does not grind very well."
