Compare Cafe Modena Espresso Machine
December 28, 2009good machine
"I was given this machine for christmas and found it to work great. I also use the double shot cup and even without heating my cups the espresso is very hot. It foams nicely and makes a great cup! It is a little loud but works nicely. I am usually not in a hurry to make shot after shot so waiting the few seconds to start my second double shot is fine. The steam wand does pulsate but works really well. It has turned out to be a nice little machine"
December 26, 2009STAY AWAY!!!
"Doesnt even work. got it for christmas and no matter what it wont operate correctly. The water pump is useless as it wont process any water through the filter, the steamer goes off in erradic spouts, the dang machine is sooooo loud and it vibrates violently, so much in fact that the shot glasses go flying off the drip plate. save yourself a headache and dont buy it. customer service is worthless as they deny their product could be faulty and say im operating it in some wrong way. To bad the nice people at the store my wife bought it at told me that they have had several returned today....SEVERAL!!! Cmon guys for 200 bux make a decsent product ... STAY AWAY
Please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 1-866-breville so that we can help. Thanks."
December 26, 2009Never got it to work
"I bought this before a snow storm and was without coffee for three days, while being snowed in and while having a full-house with family in town for Christmas. Out of the box, it never worked. The water didn't flow, couldn't get the steam to work either. I'm returning it today and not sure if I will get a replacement or not... I'm really, really, REALLY Frustrated.
Please email us at email@example.com or call 1-866-Breville if there is anything we can help with. Sorry for your poor experience.
December 21, 2009pleasantly surprised
"I was surprised by the review of 12/14 as I just bought this machine about 2 wks ago and do not have the problem of lukewarm coffee. I respectfully suggest the last reviewer did not read the directions. You do NOT have to turn the machine off to wait for the 2d brew; you just have to wait (about 20-30 secs.) until one of the lights goes back off. In addition, if you use the 2-shot holder you get your double in one brew, and if you do it the way I do, you can have it extra-hot.
We have been making our own cappucino for going on 2 decades and this machine is a big step up from what we have used before. It makes delicious coffee and, of equal importance to me, fabulous foam. Not that it particularly matters, but it's also a fabulous machine. We tried replacing our nearly antique little machine once before but the replacement was a disaster. This one appears to be just fine.
I like my lattes extra hot and am able to get them that way. As the instructions recommend (and which I think is typical for a machine in this price range), you should first heat up your cup (which also heats the coffee holder apparatus--the thing the coffee comes through).
My method (my husband likes his coffee only medium hot--not anywhere near as hot as I do):
1) turn on machine
2) warm up my cup, leaving hot water in cup, and put it on the top (cup warmer)
3) make a double in a 2d cup for the hubby
4) steam the milk--extra hot.
5 by then you will be able to dump out the used grounds. do not rinse it out as you want to keep the casing hot.
6) dump out hot water from cup and make my espresso double shot in hot cup
7)re-steam the milk for a few seconds--just to make it extra hot.
It's too early for me to know how well the machine lasts; if it holds up I might give it 5 stars. "
December 13, 2009Machine is just ok
"The machine is easy to use. My main disappointment is that the water is heated only long enough to make a single shot and then you have to MANUALLY turn off the machine (the heating light comes on) and wait until it has reheated to make a second shot. If you don't manually turn the machine off instantly when the heating light comes on, cold water runs through and into your espresso. Additionally the shot that is made is only luke warm. When I add it to HOT milk I have to reheat the milk as the shot cools the milk to a warm temperature. "
