I absolutely LOVE this machine and so does my sister who has a more expensive machine

"I have had one of these machines for a very long time--probably close to 10 years now. It has been a reliable work horse all this time. Mine is so old that it has a stationary milk frother--not the fancy movable one. I'd had it about 2 years when an acquaintance's son got married and had one on his gift registry. Even though I normally wouldn't spent this much on a wedding gift for an acquaintance--especially since I was invited to only a reception rather than a wedding, I loved it so much that I bought it for them because I knew it was a great machine. It is still working perfectly (darn). It does a very good job with the crema on the coffee-way better than the Krups that I had returned to Macy's when I got this one. It also has a great frother, and just pours out the steam with gobs of power--better than the expensive machine my sister got from Starbucks! I also love the sort of art deco style of it. It looks great in my newly remodeled kitchen with the black granite counters. But, I wish it would belly up because now I want the new espresso machine with the removable water "closet" and the conical grinder! Unfortunately it doesn't look like it is going anywhere soon!"

Great espresso and cappuccino

"Bought a Cafe Modena two weeks ago after my 4 1/2 year old Cafe Roma's steam capability fizzled. I live in DC and the nearest authorized repair location is in New York. Spoke with them and they said it wasn't cost effective to ship the machine for repair. (I tried Durgol, and several tips I found on blogs, etc. to get the steam wand to produce good steam, but had no luck....
I loved the Cafe Roma and was ready to buy another, but it appears it has been replaced by the Modena. Wasn't convinced I should try the Modena as it seemed to be a cheaper version of the Roma. But I bought one and I find it is as good or better than the Roma I had. It makes great espresso and the steam wand seems to heat up faster and froth/heat the milk faster. I use Italian espresso (prefer Lavazza Crema e Gusto) I bring back from trips to Italy. Wonderful crema and a smooth flavor! I don't get the same rich flavor with some of the espresso grinds found in the US....e.g. Cafe Bustelo.

cafe Modena

"What a great machine! I have owned others but this one is the best. The frother is wonderful. It makes the flat white as good as the ones I had in New Zealand. And the price is most affordable. Thank you Breville!"

I love this machine.

"If you love espresso you will love this machine. We have a die cast Breville espresso machine and loved it. We have a beach house and did not want to invest 600-700 $ for a machine there. We bought this machine for the beach house and to our most pleasant surprise it made as good quality espresso as the other one we have at home. We had a brunch there some time ago and made more than 40 cups of espresso and everybody was impressed at our barista abilities (thanks to this little machine)."

simple, good machine

"Essentially, the Cafe Modena is nice home espresso/cappuchino maker. Easy to use, priced nicely, makes a good cup of espresso. I haven't had it long enough to say how well it will hold up ( I had purchased it to replace a combination coffee/espress maker which only laster 7 months-a great disappointment from a well known manufacturer), but it feels heavy & well built-we'll see.I was pleasently suprised to see it included a tamper, stainless steel pitcher for frothing, and a set of demitasse cups-nice bonus. So far, so good."

<3

"I absolutely love my Café Modena. It took me a few times to figure out the best grind and tamping pressure, but after experimenting a bit the espresso comes out rich with a beautiful layer of creme. The steam wand works perfectly as long as I wait for the heating light to go off before steaming. I can even make the perfect foam by removing the frothing aid and "surfing" the wand on the surface of the milk, slowly lowering as the milk expands. The two combined make me a perfect latte every time. My husband is even addicted now, and he doesn't even like coffee.

I suggest that everyone go buy this machine for yourselves and everyone you know. There is absolutely no way that you could find a better machine in this price range. I owned a Mr. Coffee espresso machine before this which made weak espresso and milk with big tasteless bubbles instead of foam. This is a HUGE step up.

(although I'm in danger of drinking WAY too much caffeine now)

Thank you Breville for such a quality machine at a price I could afford!"

Smoothest cup of espresso! - suggestion for water level window

"I have had many many double cups from your machine at my friends house. It makes the smoothest cup of espresso I have ever had. It doesn't mater which coffie I use, it always tastes very smooth and not bitter. My friend told me he loves the machine, but the only problem seems to be the water level window. I looked at his machine and I think you can solve this problem by cutting the same size window on the side and natural light will reflect the water level naturaly. Nice machine I plan on getting one with my tax return. 5-stars."

So Easy to Use

"Just got this for Christmas. I have been an avid Starbucks fan for years. I made my favorite drink right out of the box. After my third one, I think it every bit as good as the one I buy. The espresso is great! Easy to make.

My only concern, so far, is that I only fill the milk container around half way but cannot get it hot before it overflows over the top, making a bit of a mess. I even tried less milk, around a third, and still overflows before I can get it that hot. Must be doing something wrong. I will figure it out. And I would like it better maybe if the wand was longer and could move. "
