Wow!!
So far, our new blender is working great! We have had it less than a month and we have never enjoyed smoothies like this before.
Sorry to hear so many customers having problems. I hope ours isn't going to be one of those.

Love this blender unit. So sad that it gave out so soon.
I purchased this unit for my wife's last b-day as she always complained that our previous blender did not blend or perform any of its other functions well. She was ecstatic at how well the breville Hemisphere blender performed and loved its sleek design as well. She would use it mainly to prepare salsas, at most about 3-4 times weekly. Just this week, while hand-washing blade assembly, I noticed a dark gooey discharge emitting from the shaft as I shook off excess water. I also noticed the shaft is loose as it has play and wiggles with ease.
I don't mind paying the breville price however, its too soon for product failure and costly for replacement. This piece costs 25% (w/o shipping fees) of the whole unit cost. Our previous blenders have lasted no less than two years even though they did not function well enough since new.
I was hoping to get my money's worth and hope Breville stands behind their name enough to correct this problem. I will contact Breville tomorrow morning and post their response accordingly. -
Another former Cuisinart customer
Had to laugh when I read Greg's review. Like you, Greg, I burned through two Cuisinarts! (I like my Cuisinart food processor, but the blenders are a bit too delicate I guess.) The salesperson at the store suggested this as an alternative.
Hope the motor burnout doesn't happen here. I must say, the motor on this is much quieter.

Awesome Blender (so far)...
After burning through 2 blenders (Cuisinart) in the past 9 months, I decided you get what you pay for and purchased the BBL600XL blender. So far, so good; this is thing is incredible. I work out daily, therefore, make smoothies daily; my blender is an integral part of my kitchen.
I'm really hoping this thing doesn't burn out like my Cuisinart's... -
Best blender I've owned!!
I got this blender about 3 months ago and absolutely love it. Works great for all functions, but especially love the smoothy option. None of the other blenders have this option, including the Cuisinart blender that I previously owned. This blender is powerful and a real work horse in the kitchen.
I have never had problems with leaking from this blender that seems to be an issue with others. I think that the trick is not tightening the blade too tightly.
This blender looks great with my other Breville appliances. I highly trust the engineering from the Breveille brands. I also own the Breville BKC700 single coffee maker and 2 slice toaster. Would recommend Breveille appliances to anyone. -
We love this blender...1yr later still a work horse
My wife and I have morning protein shakes everyday. We have always been disappointed with all of the blenders we have bought over the years. None of the blenders really chopped or grind the ice well...Except this one!!! I had not herd of Breville and I was not looking to spend $200 for a blender. It was on sale for $150.00 and we thought we give it a try. VERY HAPPY. One year later and still love it.
My wife loves the "Snow" option. She grinds and eats Ice all day (I bought her a separate ice making machine!). This machine is a work horse.
I see some people have had a problem with theirs...not us. -
Blends well but design flaw with leaking blender pitcher
Purchased about three weeks ago. My wife and I make protein shakes on a daily basis. It leaks periodically.
I thought we were just not tightening enough (even though it specifically instructs not to). At this price, this definitely shouldn't be happening. I was going to buy a second pitcher because we use so often, but, after reading all the reviews, will hold off until Breville fixes what should be a simple design change. I wouldn't mind spending the $90.00 for the new pitcher (even though it's as expensive as many complete blenders from other companies), but to do so now, before they correct the design flaw would make no sense. Maybe if they read enough of these emails, they will correct the problem, and make good for existing purchases.
On another note, we also have a Breville Toaster Oven, now, for about six months and love it.
From Breville:
Chip, thanks for your feedback. We passed this along to our product development team.

Burning rubber!!
Just blended a soup to find my blender smoking and smelling like burning rubber. I have had this blender for about 14 months and, up until this point, loved it! I must say I am disappointed with the fact that the blade assembly just failed on me. I haven't used this blender too much, probably about 30-40 times since we first got it... I'm on hold with Breville now, waiting for a customer rep to pick up (8 mins so far). I wonder if they will charge me for the part...
After 10 minutes on hold, the Breville system asks for your phone number and promises to call back (a nice touch, only wish they offered me this option 10 minutes ago...). Waiting for the call now...
Still waiting for the call back... (40 mins now)
In the meantime, I have been to Amazon and have read a bunch of reviews on this blender. Everyone seems to love it, minus the people who complain about the "leakage" that occurs if you don't tighten the base enough. Happened to me once and I learned from my mistake. They were a few complaints about the blade assembly burning out, it seems I'm not the only one. I have to think this a pretty serious design flaw... I cut and pasted this from a review on Breville... "....we started it up and could smell something like rubber burning. Turns out that's exactly what was burning. The blade assembly has a ball bearing surrounded by a rubber gasket. The bearing had rusted and corroded and the heat from the bearing started to melt the rubber and hence the smell. I am baffled why the bearing rusted if the rubber was doing it's job but it may just be a product defect or poor design." Interesting...
Just went to taste my soup and realize that the busted blade assembly polluted my soup! There is granulated black rubber blended within my soup!! This is a disaster, not only is my blender broken but my soup ruined!
Just got the call back from Breville... I have to say I am impressed. The customer service rep was lovely and explained to me what had happened. She then decided to replace my whole unit, free of charge. She e-mailed me a Fed Ex label to ship my broken unit back to them and I should be my new blender in a few days. Thanks Breville! That is the way to service your customers!!!
- Very Disappointed This is a great blender, but with some serious design flaws. NOT "crevice free"!!! Mold has grown in areas of the blender that you can't get to by taking things apart (yes, I purchased the small star shaped tool to get it as taken apart as possible). Tends to leak unless you tighten it to the point that you can't un-tighten it. Finish on base appears to be oxidizing and has chipped off in various areas.

Love it
I've lost 20 pounds since last summer using the Smoothie Function.
Simply put the ingredients in and press the button. While it runs, put everything away.
Cleanup is a snap by rinsing with water, filling halfway, the running the smoothie function again.
