Love This, But...

"I absolutely LOVE this kettle. Until recently, just punching a button for a certain temperature worked great. Now I get boiling water no matter what temperature I'm wanting. Disappointed that this kettle only gets used once or twice a day - no excessive use. "

Just plain good

"I don't have much to say about this product but just that it is simply good and that it works well, doing what it should. The build quality says Breville, and it heats of water very quickly. Corrosion is easy to clean with vinegar. I've had this thing for about a year or longer and it still gets the job done and saves from having to mess with the stove top if you are not wishing to turn a stove eye on.

One thing that I really love about this product is for teas. It is designed to have the tea drinker in mind. Leaves are to be steeped at certain temps or they can be scorched. This product saves you from that happening. Also has a setting for french press coffee."

Base stopped working after two months - purchased Nov-15

"I really liked this tea kettle until the base quit working after about 2 months of use. I used it approximately 3 times a week. I am going to file a warranty claim since it has a one year warranty."

No beeps please

"This unit can boil water. Have not yet verified the various temperatures.
Owned the unit for 2-3 months now. Used daily. Average of 3-liters per day.

Complaints & Feature Requests:

No option to disable the alarm. The sound of water boiling is all the alert I need. Please add the option to disable the alarm beep.

The Keep Warm feature times out. Since the unit has a boil dry prevention, I would prefer that the Keep Warm feature remain enabled until I turn the unit off, of last for hours, rather than minutes.

The Keep Warm feature only seems to work in conjunction with boiling water — that is after pouring water into the teapot and placing it back on the control unit selecting Keep Warm does not seem to work."

"Really liked it until electronics in base unit stoped working. I have bought one for myself and one as a gift for my daughter, the same story with hers. Very upsetting, not exatly inexpensive kettle. You would think for this price should last longer.
I also own toaster, like it too, do not use very often, will see how long it's going to last. "

broke after about 2 years

"Worked great for 2 years. Then went into continuous boil mode, boiling itself dry. Not good for a $129.99 tea kettle, but apparently, from reading other reviews, typical of Chinese products. Not built to last. Would be happy to pay more for something built to last."

Also just stopped working

"I concur with one of the other reviews. My kettle just stopped working after one year. Very frustrating."

Great start, use care with pot

"Really enjoying the kettle. The temp buttons are very convenient, the water measure shows on both sides of the kettle, so works with whatever hand you're working with. No problems (yet) with any of the issues mentioned on this site. However, I am surprised that nobody mentioned how HOT the body of the kettle is after heating. I tend to make teapots of tea, so I fill the kettle up to the 5 or 6 cup mark. It's heavy and a few times I've used both hands to lift the kettle. Ouch! I've burned my left hand twice now.

So folks, good kettle. Love those little buttons and that they have temps next to each of them! Just remember, the kettle body is not fully insulated and DOES get hot enough to burn you if you touch it anywhere other than the handle. "

BKE820XL Kettle

"Lasted one year, as did the citrus press we bought at Williams Sonoma. We're down approx $350 in a year on Breville products. They literally just stopped working. Plug em in, no power. We also own risotto cooker, food processor and toaster. So far these are still operational. I don't know if we'll purchase any further Breville products, they don't seem to last long."

Loved it - at first

"Absolutely loved this product at first. However, less than two years later one of the handle screws became loose, causing the kettle to leak. Now the base unit has a short in it so it shuts off within seconds. Two years ago, I would have given this product 5 stars. It was used at least once a day - we drink tea throughout the day in my family. I loved the variable temperatures and how quickly the water heated. However, at this price I expect more than a 2-year useful life. "
