the Tea Maker

The new Breville Tea Maker is a revolutionary tea experience. The fully automated tea basket moves down, then up, gently agitating the leaves to precisely infuse your tea. Push the basket button and watch the basket cycle in and out of immersion. Seeing is believing.

Different tea varietals such as Black, Green, White, and Oolong require exact water temperatures and controlled brew times to allow their unique flavors and aromas to develop during brewing. The Tea Maker eliminates the guesswork so you can enjoy a perfect cup of tea, every time.

Fully programmable for all types of tea, water temperatures, and steep times. The moving tea basket allows water to circulate freely around the individual tea leaves for maximum infusion. Set the timer and wake up to the aroma of your favorite brew. The German-made Schott glass kettle is durable and stain resistant.

Relaxation - from start to finish.

Excellent tea maker

"Been using Organic tea and the Breville works perfect every time. If you want the perfect cup of tea this is for you. A couple other reviewers mentioned taste/smell of plastic. We have not noticed this but we did wash and run hot water through as the direction states before first use."

Plastic smell/ taste

"I just read some of the reviews and am writing my own and it seems that many people complain about a taste/smell of plastic. The manual did state that water be boiled prior to using the tea maker as it is new and with any new product containing plastic it should be cleaned prior to use.
I have not had any issues with the smell/taste of plastic as that would ruin the taste of the tea. You can also boil with lemon not only to rid the smell/taste of plastic but also as maintenance as suggested by the company.

The Best!

"My wonderful hubby got me this tea maker for christmas from Teavana...there is nothing about this tea maker that isn't short of amazing; it is easy to use, accurate, easy to clean and looks great. I have not encountered any issues to date. It is the Rolls- Royce of tea makers. You will not be disappointed with your purchase.

Almost perfect tea kettle

"Beautiful tea kettle. Good options for adjusting temperature for different teas. Fast boiling. Simple to use. According to customer service, the internal parts are glass, stainless steel and silicone. All safe for heat and long term use. Better than many kettles on the market The downsides that you cannot time the warmer past 60 minutes and the PLASTIC SMELL AND AFTERTASTE. it seems to be slowly diminishing with regular use but I hope whatever is causing the aftertaste is not harmful to your health - especially with long term use. I have requested that customer service confirm what type of plastic was used for the lid and basket. We all know that some plastics are harmful and leech chemicals when heated. This kettle would have been 5 stars PERFECT if the lid and basket were not constructed with plastic. "

tea tastes like plastic

"Actually I love this product except one major issue. The good out weights the bad with a work around that I continue to use it.

The tea tastes like plastic if left for any length of time in the pot after the cycle. I've also noticed the taste when using the timer function.

The smell/taste appears to come from the material on the inside of the lid. I'm hoping it will go away with time, but it has not so far (about 1 month). Breville happily exchanged it for another unit, but did not cross ship. They second one had the same issue. They said they have never had this complaint before.

In order to use it with acceptable tasting tea, I remove it right away upon completion and put it in a carafe. Also I make sure to leave the lid off the unit until next use.

I love all the features, the speed of the tea making and the flexibility of the time and temp brewing. Other than the bad smell/taste, it is a perfect unit and will continue to use it. I'd really like to use the timer feature so hopefully with time it will get better.

The suggestion of putting lemon in a hot water cycle did not make a difference.

Great Tea Brewer and Kettle

"I just got my kettle, and have been using it for the last few days. So far, it works great. It was bought to replace a Capresso H2O water kettle, which broke after less than a year, and wasn't used that much. Although this was a lot more expensive, it can also do much, much more. You can vary the temperature even if you just want hot water. It heats relatively quickly, maybe not quite as fast as the Capresso, but it seems to be better made. Time will tell. But, I have several Breville products, the keurig type cofffe brewer, which works fantastically, the toaster oven, which also works great, and the blender, which I don't use that much, but still is excellent. All my kitchen appliances have been flawless in their execution, and the are beautifully designed. The non-Breville appliances that I had before, looked cheap in comparison, even though they weren't. You get what you pay for with Breville.

I have not yet tried brewing loose, tea per se, but I did brew some after cutting open some tea bags, and it worked fine, but there were just a few small leaves that got through the filter. Insignificant, really. I also brewed tea in the pot using the tea bags inside that basket. The tea came out great. I do want to buy loose tea, but I haven't had the chance, yet. But, I expect it to work just as well with that.

And I got a pretty good deal online. I bought an open box from One Call, at a used price, but they sent be a brand new, unopened one for the same price, with free shipping. So, all in all, I am very pleased with this unit, and would definitely recommend it, if you can afford it."

Tea Leaves in my tea

"There is so much about this machine to absolutely love -- consistent temperature brewing, automatic raising and lowering of the tea basket, timers ... all the bells and whistles.

However, the mesh in the tea basket is so large that tea leaves and spices go through it pretty easy. Anything except large leaf black tea and I have residue in my tea. Look at the picture of the basket and do a web search for a tea basket and compare the mesh size.

I inquired about other available baskets with a finer mesh and none are offered. Very disappointing for an otherwise high quality (and let's not kid ourselves -- pricey) product.

Almost Perfect... Almost!

"I had the IQ Innovations Fine-T and hated how much it leaked water and that it didn't have common-sense features like customizable programming, audible notification when the tea was finished, and the ability to keep it warm for a decent amount of time.

The Breville One-Touch Tea Maker is like an answered-prayer in many ways but there are a few things that are surprisingly missing (and I realize that I'm being very picky here)... I would liked for there to be fill-lines on the OPPOSITE side of the glass jug (think about filling up the jug... it's below you in the SINK and you're gripping the handle... so how do you suppose you are going to see fill-lines if they are on the same side as the handle?!). I would also have liked to see an "off" button that simply returned the Tea Maker off (and showed the clock).

But please do not misinterpret my constructive criticism as anything more than a wish list for Version 2 of this absolutely amazing product that BY FAR buries all other competition on the market!"

Finally, I can take home from my favorite Chinese restaurant & still have great tea

"The family has been drinking tea more often as our daughter is now regularly traveling to both Japan & China and each time had brought varieties of tea not readily available to us. This pot is a revelation as it will now allow us to brew and taste each type as it was meant to be. We've only been using the pot for a few days but have already diminished our tea cache by 10% (and we had a lot of tea). The only drawback that we have found is the tea scoop. Are we supposed to break (we haven't) the tea leaves before using the scoop? Most of our teas are too large to fit in the scoop. And our Jasmine teas come in a ball (we've used two balls for a full pot).

I won't repeat some of the accolades already posted. If you are a tea drinker and don't have this pot, get one. If you're on the fence about tea or the pot (yes, I know it's an expense), I believe it's money well invested as you'll be enjoying the fruits of that investment for years to come."

I didn't know I wanted it, now I wouldn't give it up

"I had been having a terrible time not burning tea, so I asked my family for a variable temperature kettle for Christmas. My sister, who is a master of all things tea found this for me instead. I was instantly in love. It hadn't occurred to me such a thing even existed! I have gone from occasionally drinking tea (because I didn't want to deal with the stress and hassle of making it properly, and because it never tasted like it did when my sister brewed it), to drinking multiple cups of perfect tea every day. Those peaceful moments of calm when I can take a quick second and sip my tea are priceless. It sounds a little silly, but this appliance has quickly become an important part of my day!

Now for the more functional review:
The One-Touch is very easy to use. I did read the directions before using it because it looked so hi-tech I was concerned about breaking it. I recommend this because there are some warnings and tips that are beneficial to know. With that said, the interface is extremely intuitive and I haven't had to look at the instructions since.

The tea presets are a great place to start, but I have found I now do almost all my brewing through the "custom" option. My preference is for flavored white teas and the automatic white temp setting is just a little high. The One-Touch remembers the last custom setting used between brewing (even though I unplug it every time), so this is still as easy as the push of a button.

The strength settings can get the novice tea brewer in trouble. In general if you want stronger tea you should add more tea, not increase the length of brew - however they are a handy way to select common brew times.

The "keep warm" feature is great, and very handy, especially if you are brewing the tea while running around in the morning; it means your tea is still steaming even if you have lost every item you have looked for and your morning routine has taken twice as long as usual.

One thing to note is that the minimal brew amount is 2 cups, or just over 16 oz. This is about what I put in my travel mug anyway, but if you are a person who only drinks one, 8 oz cup of tea in the morning this is not the kettle for you.

As someone else mentioned condensation does form at the top of the kettle, which functionally effects nothing, but aesthetically is undesirable. While I do use filtered water I suspect better filtered water would cut down on some of the water marks this leaves.

All in all, I cannot recommend this enough. It is a truly fabulous thing. The only real downside is you may end up buying a lot more tea, and more variety of tea, than you did before!"
