April 6, 2012Satisfied with the expensive machine. Glad I payed the extra $80.
"I have been interested in a self grinding coffee pot for a couple of years now and just decided to shell out the money on this machine. You can bet I was going to take it back if it operated less than expected. It's a lot of money for me and a big purchase. The manual says to preheat your cup or carafe. I have not done that. My coffee self brewed at 8am the first morning and I returned to it at 4pm to find the coffee was still at a drinkable temperature. I did put it in the microwave for 30 seconds to get it just a bit hotter. I was pleased with how it held the heat and didn't taste like it had been sitting on a burner. I LOVE not having to grind coffee anymore before I can make a pot of coffee. Who wants to do that in the morning?! On the most intense setting with the carafe, it will only let you brew 9 cups. That is okay with me if it means 2 cups less water to dilute the coffee. I rather have it good and strong than have added water. To get the last cup of coffee out you do have to nearly turn the pot upside down. That also is okay with me if it means the design is best to keep my coffee hot in the carafe. I am very pleased with my purchase and plan to keep the machine. I came close to buying a Keurig instead. I am glad I did not. The YouBrew is a good machine with flexible options and the coffee is good and hot."

"I was uncertain about buying this given the price and some of the reviews, however no matter what you look at there are 5's and 1's.... I have managed a coffeehouse and know a lot about coffee, I'm not an expert but truly appreciate good coffee... you can ignore any comments about it being difficult to operate or not making hot coffee, simply not true.
the hardest thing was getting it set to autobrew in the morning, but even that only took a few minutes of reading.
i was disappointed to find that you can only adjust the flavor when brewing individual cups and not a full carafe.
i brewed a 12 cup pot with it on the strongest setting you can have using the integrated grinder - it made excellent full flavored, robust, hot, thick coffee. if you brew 9 cups you can make it even stronger! using pre-ground coffee you'll want to stick to the recommendation of 1 tablespoon per cup you're brewing to get a good brew; we tried what we used to use with our last coffee maker and it was a bit weak.
I've only had it for a couple weeks so we'll see how it holds up, but so far i couldn't be happier."

"This coffeemaker is replacing my Keurig platinum which I thought was ok, but very tempermental.
Words cannot describe the awesomeness of this machine. With 4 adults in my family, there is a brew style for all of us and the taste is second to none.
With the price of k-cups nowadays, this unit will pay for itself. Clean up is easy, especially if you use paper filters. I have read some of the negative comments and find them to be incorrect. I am one of those people who like the hottest coffee possible. If my porcelain cup happens to come out of the cupboard cold on a cold winter day. I simply rinse it in hot water before I use it. I have done that with all the single cup coffeemakers I've used. With the warmer weather coming, I have not had to do this and the coffee is extremely hot. I do agree with one reviewer who suggested 3 or 4 memory brew configurations, which would be convenient, but once you figure out the buttons, its easy to configure to your liking.

"I've had this coffee maker for about three weeks and this machine is AWESOME! The YouBrew replaced my Breville Keurig single coffee maker because I could not get the right intense flavor I was looking for with the My Cup. The K-cups can get expensive and I was brewing pre-ground coffee using the My cup. I had to brew twice for my travel mug. The Youbrew coffee maker not only brews a single cup, but you can brew to a full carafe, including a travel mug and choose the flavor and strength! No matter what size, the flavor is consistent. I've chosen to use coffee beans rather than the pre-ground coffee. Thank you!!"

"I have used this machine several times. It takes a little more than 4min to brew 4 cups. With the steep setting at about medium it takes abt 3min to brew a 10 oz cup."

"The biggest problem with coffee makers is that very few reach proper brewing temperature. This one achieves that.
I was skeptical about the "steep" feature. Usually coffee steeped in water for a period of time causes bitterness. This is not he case here. Apparently proper brewing temperature is the factor that most affects a smooth (even when strong) cup of coffee.
This unit is very easy to use and clean. You must read the manual because there are some settings that are uncommon to many of us. Once you understand WHAT these settings do the My Brew is a breeze to operate. Don't let all the settings scare you.
This unit combines proper grind for drip, proper brewing temperature into a beautiful user friendly design. Now that it is set up all I do is push one or two buttions and the My Brew gives me the proper amount of coffee and measures the proper amount of water to brew it.
Another great feature; It will NOT try to run with an empty water tank as running the heating element dry can eventually damage it.
There are several alerts to remind me of what i may have forgotten in setup.
This machine does all I need and more.
Maybe one morning it will hand me a cup while i am stil in bed? hahaha

"Ok, I have had the You Brew for just under a week. I switched from a Keurig because I could not get the right amount of flavor to the size of the cup to my choosing, use a small cup- coffee came out bitter and way too strong. I choose a large cup or travel mug and coffee would be weak or watered down and or the amount of water would not be the same despite having the same water selection......
So, I reasearched this coffee maker, I enjoyed the settings, all of them. I can choose 9 different sizes for whatever cup I choose. I can also adjust the strength (regulates amount of beans per cup), and I can also adjust the boldness by regulating the amount of time the water sits in the grounds (steep time). This setting, to me was extremely important because I don't want to add beans to the coffee just to get the boldness I prefer. Ok, I have hit all the "likes", and here are the misses... If you thought your alarm clock was loud, you'll go through the roof when you hear the grinder. I think that a little more engineering and this problem would go away. Maybe some soft gel feet or soft mounts for the grinder.... The other miss would be related to different brands of coffee. If there was 3 to 4 different profiles that could be programmed as well as the settings you found "perfect" for that brand would frce me to rate this with all five stars. "

"Several months ago our toaster / convection oven quit…in the search for a replacement I ran across the Breville line of products. I was very impressed with what I read concerning the attributes of the different items along with the reviews. I am an Engineer working in technology development (R&D) for a large consumer products company, so I do know a little bit about design. That being said after purchasing the Smart Oven I wasn’t disappointed with the choice…fantastic product and that led to the research for a new coffee maker.
I wanted something with a Carafe and naturally I went back to the Breville web site and found the “You Brew”. After reading the product highlights and reviews I continued searching the web and reading articles concerning coffee makers and ratings…long story short I bought the “You Brew” and found it to be as excellent product as the “Smart Oven”. In reading the reviews I was a little concerned about the temperature issue. So I had to check and after running a pot of water through the machine into the carafe and then measuring the temperature I found it to be almost 200 degrees F. That was hot enough for me, couldn’t imagine wanting it hotter. I then made a pot of pre-ground coffee and also found that the flavor was much better than our last coffee maker…in checking the filter area I found that the hot water dispersion over the grounds was very even. I could go on about the other subtle attributes regarding this product but I am sure by now you’re getting sleepy. This product is in a category that is rated by individual taste regarding flavor…and that’s impossible to design a product that everyone will be happy with. I for one think it’s well executed.

"After the coffee maker I had for 10 years died I was so excited to be replace it with something new! William Sonoma highly recommended the YouBrew and after my purchase I was anxious to get it set up because it was such a cool machine!
I have had it for a little over a month and although it is easy to use I agree with some comments made by others: 1. The carafe is an awkward size and for some reason it is difficult to pour that last cup of coffee out without having to turn the entire carafe completely upside down over the sink; 2. As much as I want to like this machine, it does not maintain the coffee at a hot temperature like other carafes I have owned. After as little as a half an hour If I pour a cup of coffee, I then have to heat it in the microwave. For $280 bucks I would have expected alot better. I will keep this machine but I do hope that Breville can take these comments and make some improvements the next time around."
January 30, 2012Best Coffee We've Had
"We've had our YouBrew for about a month and simply love it! The first time we used it, the coffee was quite strong - so we toned it down a notch. I agree with others that the coffee is HOT - and stays hot for long enough to finish the pot!
I have trouble understanding comments that the coffee is weak or not very hot! You can make this coffee as strong as you'd like and it comes out plenty hot. I'd say they're doing something wrong!
Every weekend, we go to a restaurant because it has the most flavorful and strong coffee that we love. We've tried for a long time to duplicate it. We had a Cuisinart and not only did it not make very strong or particularly flavorful coffee, it sometimes backed up somehow and would overflow all over the place...making a huge mess. I searched for a new coffeemaker/grinder combination - without much success. Then we heard about the "burr grinder" and I searched again. When I heard about the Breville, I was hopeful this would be the answer! And it is! We're thrilled with this coffee maker!
Yes it's a bit bulky/large, but it works beautifully! We had to pull out our previous coffee maker to make coffee, too...so no big deal.
This is the best coffee we've ever had! I'd recommend it to everyone!
