"I purchased this coffee bean grinder in January, 2015. I've not had any problems with the grinder, to date and am very pleased with it. Yes, it is on
the pricey side, but again, it has proved reliable for me and gives me the best grind every time. But I also take care of it by cleaning it out after each use.
I'm actually amazed at how much grind comes out upon cleaning it out - sometimes a tablespoon and occasionally 2 tablespoons. But I save it for my next brewing. "

"I've only had this grinder for a couple of months and already it has stopped working twice. The first time I was able to mess with it and get it started again but I was not successful the second time. Motor runs but it makes a high pitched whine and nothing comes out. I've taken out the top blades and cleaned many times but it hasn't helped. It's a slick looking grinder but I'm very disappointed. "
November 2, 2014As with anything worth your time, you have to learn.
"I have used this grinder with french press, drip and an older Breville Ikon espresso machine, and simply put, perfect, just perfect, after you learn what settings work for your taste and the way you wish to brew your coffee. The water temp has a lot to do with the taste of your coffee along with the size of grind for your choice of brewing method. Unit has never clogged and is consistence every time, and I use it every morning.
I was surprise to find this machine in Macy's, North America largest junkyard and seller of cheap overpriced crap made in China.
So far so good for a well made coffee grinder. Cheers to Breville!!!

"Have used the Smart Grinder for several months. I paired it with the Infuser.
The grinder settings are not nearly precise enough. One setting is so fine that it chokes the machine with an extremely light tamp. The next courser setting requires a very heavy tamp. The adjustment for the amount are the same. One setting too much and the next too little. I found this true for three different coffees.
I found that the porta filter holder does not hold the infuser porta filter directly under the grinder chute and so there is always too much spilled ground coffee.
The grinder seems well made and has many theoretically helpful features. It grinds well but the adjustment features make is less than satisfactory. I am looking for another grinder. "

"The most course setting on this grinder is very fine. It will make terrible coffee in a french press. The most course setting is even too fine for a Keurig filter. I would not recommend if you plan to use this with a french press or a Keurig. Buyer beware!!!!"

"After being unable to get my grinder to not jam up using 3 different types of coffee beans, I called Breville support. I thought that if there is a possibility this was a defective unit I would return it to the store and get a replacement. Otherwise I would just return it and get a Rancilo. Support had me run the grinder with no coffee so they could hear it over the phone. What I thought was the normal sound before it jammed up turned out to indicate a problem with the grinder. They sent me a pre-paid return label to send it back. I got a replacement unit and it works great.
Breville support was really helpful. "

"I ordered this Smart Grinder after reading many reviews and was so looking forward to better coffee and simpler grinding ( was using the inexpensive blade grinder). I have tried to use this three times and each time I it has locked up and I had to clear the hopper at least two times while trying to grind for an 8 cup brewer. I have the setting to the left under the first R in "Percolator". I had it further to the right for another try.
I read that oily beans might cause a problem. Is it hard to find coffee beans this grinder can tolerate? I tried a different brand of coffee each time.
Hoping I can find a coffee bean that will work in this grinder. Any suggestions? "
